Make pure driving experience an objective and then harness technological advancement to that goal. That's Porsche. And that's why the 911 remains a sports car industry benchmark.
June 1948, and the first sports car to bear the Porsche name, the 356, is granted road certification. Fast forward to1962 and 50,000 Porsches have rolled off the assembly line. Two years later and the first of Porsche's most famous model, the 911, goes into series production. Other renowned models follow, including the 928 in 1977 and the 944 in 1981. Innovation gathers pace in the 80s with an all-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera with ‘Tiptronic' gearbox system. The 90s sees other milestones like the launch of the mid-engine Boxster roadster and the 1,000,000th Porsche. The last decade saw new generations of both 911 and Boxster and brand new models including the Cayenne, Cayman and Panamera. Whichever model or generation you look at, the exquisite detail in every car is testimony to the expertise and experience of Porsche engineers. It's also there to be enjoyed in the Porsche models in the Avis-Prestige fleet - the Porsche 911 Coupe and Porsche Cayenne GTS.
