Experience Winter Holidays in the UK

When thinking of a winter escape, many think of the snow covered mountains of Austria or Switzerland. However, there is plenty of fun to be had in the great British outdoors right now! Don’t let cold weather, rain or even snow stop you from visiting and exploring the UK this winter.

We have put together our top UK winter destinations to inspire you to get out and discover this beautiful time of year. If you are planning your winter holiday to the UK, discover our complete range of vehicles here and book today!

1. London

London in winter is a particularly good time to visit as you can enjoy all the city has to offer whilst beating the summer and Christmas crowds. Hire one of our luxury sports cars or hybrids from Heathrow or our central London location for easy and fun city driving!

Chinese New Year in early February promises to be a treat as London’s Chinese New Year is the largest outside of Asia! There is usually a huge street parade full of drum performances, lion and dragon dances and lots of street food stalls to whet your appetite. To get the perfect insta worthy photo, visit Coppa with their bubble-shaped “igloos” on the riverbanks. With views of Tower Bridge, it’s the perfect way to stay warm and enjoy afternoon tea! For the animal lovers, stop in for some coffee and cake and warm up at Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in Shoreditch, named after Alice in Wonderland’s pet cat.

2. Devon

Devon is home to some of this country’s best walking and driving routes, activities you can enjoy all year round. Explore Devon’s beautiful beaches, pretty woodlands and charming towns and villages made even more magical under a blanket of glistening frost. Explore 21 Mile Drive, a route through Exmoor National Park. This splendid drive along the Exmoor coastline takes to hidden harbours, through its winding roads and deep valleys.

When it’s time to stretch your legs, visit Little Dartmouth, a beautiful coastal walk with amazing views out over the sea as well as Dartmouth and Kingswear castles. Even in winter, the UK coast is a spectacular site!

2. Lake District

For the lake lovers amongst us, the Lake District is a treasure trove of outdoor activity in winter. Rent one of our luxury 4x4/SUVs from Manchester and in less than 2 hours you will be surrounded by picturesque mountains, lakes, valleys and woodlands. It is an idyllic winter escape, full of winter walking, cycling, family activities and more. Get outside and hike the snowy fells, take the kids (and adults!) sledging and after all the fun outside, warm up and play some games by a log fire in a cosy pub. For when you want a break from the winter weather, visit the Lakeland Motor Museum in Backbarrow. This museum has the largest collection of motoring memorabilia in the country!

4. Scotland

The whole of Scotland comes alive in the winter through its beautiful remote snow-capped mountains and a chance to see the Northern Lights. Winter in Scotland is particularly magical as the stunning landscapes and cosy cottages seem to banish the winter blues away. Winter wildlife is also out in abundance. Try and find Scotland’s Big Five – a red squirrel, red deer, golden eagle, otter and harbour seal, as all are active in the winter months.

Visit one of Scotland’s five ski resorts with your friends and family. Or, plan your trip around visiting fairy tale castles made even more romantic in a snowy setting. One of our particular favourites is Dunrobin Castle, located a little over an hour from our pick up and drop off location, Inverness airport. 5. Bath

Hire a car in London and in less than 3 hours you can be enjoying the city’s Thermae Bath Spa, bathing in the UK’s only naturally warm and mineral-rich water. On a crisp winters day, relaxing in the water whilst soaking up the views of the famous honey-coloured stone buildings, lit by the winter sun, is a perfect way to spend the day. No visit to Bath is complete without tasting a delicious Bath Bun with origins of the sweet or savoury delicious delight dating back to the 18th century - one of Jane Austen’s favourite treats!
