While hard to choose just a few summer events, we have put together a list of our top 5 favourite things to do in London this summer:
Too hard to choose which is our favourite out of all the many summer music festivals in and around London. However, some of our favourites include Hampton Court Palace Festival 7th – 21st June, where an electric array of musicians take over London’s favourite Tudor residence. London’s annual urban music festival, Wireless, returns to Finsbury Park 5th – 7th. We also love the huge South West Four for a massive end of summer dance party on the 24th and 25th of August in Clapham.
Unlike any tennis tournament in the world, Wimbledon is a mix between a refined garden party and an intense, no-holds-barred sporting competition that will even excite those who don’t typically watch tennis tournaments. Held from 1st – 14th of July, tickets are hard to come by, however, you can try and get your hands on same-day tickets if you’re prepared to queue. If queuing isn’t for you, venues around London show the matches on huge TV screens in bars, squares and on rooftops! Or check out ‘Murray Mound” arguably the most iconic picnic venue in sport where thousands of ticketless fans turn up to watch the tournament.
Located in the heart of Regent’ Park is London’s most beautiful and iconic open-air theatre. A firm fixture of summer in the city, the theatre is the oldest, permanent outdoor theatre in Britain offering a range of plays, music, comedy and film event every year from May to September.
Every summer, the Queen opens her official London residence, Buckingham Palace to the public. Explore the lavishly furnished State Rooms and look out for some of the Royal Collections’ greatest treasures. The summer opening of Buckingham Palace is extremely popular, so booking tickets in advance is recommended.
Keep the kids busy on your London summer holiday with free tickets to West End shows. Kids week is an annual event – lasting for the month of August – giving 5to 16-year-olds free tickets to selected family-friendly West End shows, as long as they are accompanied by a full paying adult. This is a great way to introduce kids to the West End and help save you some money!
